Spent a lovely morning with V & S at Point Dume, picking up both trash and treasures, looking for whales (none seen) and enjoying the warm winter day.
vernal pond
Hiked with V & H to Triunfo Lookout. I was last there right after the Woolsey Fire and the landscape was bleak. Now we see blackened trunks among the green—and the vernal pond is full 🙂
I picked up a lot of litter around the trail head, including a new-ish pair of very muddy Nike Airs (unfortunately not my size). I guess someone didn’t want to get back in their car with muddy shoes so decided to just toss them in the bushes 🤷🏻♀️ I will wash and donate them.
serrano valley
Serrano Valley is located in Point Mugu State Park, at the westernmost end of the Santa Monica Mountains. While I’ve hiked nearby Sycamore Canyon many times, this was my first time venturing into the valley.

I’m looking forward to training as a docent at Malibu Creek State Park next year. Today I was checking out the plants and birds with the eye of having to name them for visitors. I have a lot to learn!
