I happened to have the right hue in my palette (Indian Yellow) to paint the golden oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) that graced our pizza.

With all the sourdough bread I’ve been baking lately, I’ve realised how much I miss Vegemite. Yes, peanut butter is great, but sometimes I just want the salty bite of the Great Australian Spread. So I made the detour to World Market the other day to pick up a jar (they only have little ones, unfortunately).
Here’s the iconic 1950s TV ad. And here’s the remake from two years ago, featuring the same actress who played the baton-twirling little girl in the original version. Yeah, we love our Vegemite.

I went back to Malibu to hear Amy Tan talk about The Backyard Bird Chronicles. Before the event, I took myself out to dinner. Instead of ordering the cheapest glass of wine on the menu, I spent the extra $3 and got the most expensive. Self-care 😊.

I like the generic Whole Foods packaging for their black lentils, with the peekaboo window showing the product. I also like the price; I haven’t found better, locally or online (not sponsored!) Tonight’s dinner: Umami Mushroom and Lentil Stew. Mm-mmm.
