This month, I’m focusing on hiking more of the local trails. Bodie and I explored Sisar Canyon, and wow, it’s beautiful! We rested at the second creek crossing before heading back to the car, but I definitely want to return and hike further up the trail.

Allison had just finished telling a story about a comedy show featuring vegaliens, when I noticed some oak tree bark doing a good imitation of a vegetative alien.

A new-to-me bird … they are not rare, but I apparently haven’t been observant enough to notice one before today.
red berries
It’s red berry season in this part of the world, and our yard boasts three different shrubs bearing this cheerful fruit. None of them are native; in fact both cotoneaster and firethorn are considered invasive in California. I’d like to replace them both with our lovely endemic toyon.
