  1. It’s always sad to lose a nest. Could it be heat? We had finches nesting in a jasmine bush – I found it by accident when I was watering and a bird flew out, very startled. I looked, and there it was. The other day, seeing no birds, we looked. Empty nest, 4 eggs gone. We figure a rat got it.

    1. It wouldn’t be heat, as we are right on the ocean and have had a very cool spring. Re your finch eggs, were they blue with brown speckles? I found shells of that description on the ground near our cypress tree, and thought they might be house finch’s. I cannot see or hear evidence of nesting in the tree — but it’s taller than the house, so that’s not surprising.

      1. They were a pale blue, but as I didn’t want to disturb it more than I had, I didn’t look too closely. For a few days the finches came and went, but sadly, they then went back to squabbling at the feeders.
