Kristin Link is a science illustrator, visual artist, and educator based in McCarthy, Alaska. Her work explores the intersection of art, ecology, and place, focusing on northern landscapes including glaciers, tundra, and the boreal forest. She taught us a quite a bit about glaciers in her workshop and we explored different ways to represent them on the page.
Jean Mackay gave us a lesson on the American Eel, both their life cycle (amazing!), and tips for painting them.
Playing catch up with the Wild Wonder Conference recorded classes. Sushma Hegde taught us a playful approach to painting trees and foliage using a broader palette of colors.
Home from Hawai’i. I saw lots of fabulous plants and waterfalls, but the most memorable animal was the gold dust day gecko, Phelsuma laticauda. This, I now realize, is the gecko anthropormorphized as the mascot for GEICO insurance (though for some reason they disregarded the bright blue eye ring when they made that CGI critter).
