round and round we go

cushion

Emails, thank you’s, disaster relief research, chasing down leads, fund raising, fire maps … it all adds up to a lot of screen time. It’s so weird to be in someone else’s space, feeling like there’s so much to do and yet there’s almost nothing we can do. Hopefully a plan will coalesce soon.

tea towels

teatowels

Ironing our linen tea towels is one of my weekly pleasures. They have all been either gifted to me (many of them handprinted by my sister) or purchased as special souvenirs. Most are stained and showing signs of work and wear. As I iron them, I’m grateful for their utility and for the memories they bring. I feel kind of hugged by them, and in the act of gentle pressing and folding, I hug them back.

indigenous textiles at the fowler

Astrida and I went to the Fowler Museum to see a wonderful exhibit of Indigenous Australian textiles from the Northern Territory. Inspired by the graphic images, I played in my sketchbook when I got home.

If you’re in Los Angeles, it’s worth a visit. The exhibition runs through July 10, 2022.
