We went out to a local tavern for dinner and live music, a rare event for us! I took limited art supplies—a couple of watercolour pencils and a waterbrush. I took the easy route of sketching inanimate objects instead of the patrons and performers.

Bodie and I went for a wander around the local cemetery. One of the things I find fascinating is the number of headstones (or headplanks, in this case) with minimal information on them. I’ve sketched a few of them before. At least Richard Cregg’s has a time frame on it. Another very old one just says “Carne. Daughter of John.”

Last Thursday, while perusing the Ojai Studio Artists web site, I came across a familiar name, a woman I had briefly worked with 20 years ago. I emailed her, she called me back, and today we hung out and caught up, while visiting the studios of some of her artist friends. A most excellent day. Also, the air conditioning is now working correctly. 😁

Ventura County has nearly 40 museums; maybe I’ll get around to visiting (and sketching at) all of them. The closest one is right here in town, and it’s quite charming, with a mixture of history and contemporary art.

We don’t eat out often, but this is a pizzeria worth returning to. The pink and turquoise store across the road provides quite a colour contrast to the shaded courtyard.
