Years ago in an environmental science class, we learned that tomato seeds are not killed off in the processing of human sewage / waste as it is turned into sludge. The sludge is used as a fertilizer but only for plants which have foods harvested above the soil. (Or so we learned then.) My SO of the time grew tomato plants in his apartment using the sludge, and we enjoyed them a lot!
